About Tech Stacks

One thing to know about the tech stack used at BEST editing is that none of it is Microsoft. Put bluntly, we hate Microsoft. It is not on idealistic grounds that we disapprove of them concerning how their software works so much as it is that they are a bad business that has gotten away with doing evil things while making a ton of money for a long, long time.

We use stuff like LibreOffice, Latex, Pandoc, and so on to get your text into formats that “big places” cannot seem to ween themselves from using. Of course, when possible, we just stick to the free open source tech stacks themselves, which are perfectly fine for publishing. Scribus, anyone? Sigil? There are many alternatives.

Of course, if you LOVE Microsoft, even though we disagree with you, we can still figure out a way to work with you to achieve your goal. We do not require you to agree with us in order for us to work with you. That, it occurs to us, is the “old retro way” that things have been and will at some point be, hopefully with the demise of Microsoft included, again.
